For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me
The Need
The need to support refugees, displaced people and asylum seekers is great. There are tens of millions of refugees in the world with most of them are living in a neighouring country. In addition to this, there are over 40 million internally displaced people, and around 3.5 million aslyum seekers.
They need safe housing, food, medical help, and a time to recover. Ongoing education is needed for the children, and adults need the opportunities to be productive with their time. It is also a time when many are open to hear the gospel for the first time.
The Response
The Bible tells us to look after the 'alien' (foreigner) in our land and to speak up for the defenceless. Numerous Australian Christian charities are working to help refugees both in Australia and overseas.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me
Speak up for people who cannot speak for themselves. Protect the rights of all who are helpless.
When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt.
