Nungalinya is the premier Combined Churches Training College for Indigenous Australians. The College is formally supported by the Anglican, Uniting and Catholic churches of the Northern Territory and is situated in Casuarina, a northern suburb of Darwin.
Since 1974, Nungalinya College has been equipping men and women for leadership roles in churches and communities. Our training programs explore the Christian faith contextually through courses in Foundation Studies, Bible Overview, Media, Music and Discipleship, Christian Ministry and Theology, and Bible Translation.
Each year, men and women from over 100 different communities across Australia come to study at Nungalinya College. Our students are from both remote and urban communities and their different cultural and language backgrounds are respected and included in campus life. Many students hold important positions of authority in their own communities. Nungalinya College respects these Elders and the traditional wisdom that they possess. We recognise that Elders are the appropriate leaders to pass on what they learn to their young people.
Students attend Nungalinya in short-stay residential programs. You can find out more on our Courses page.
Each year, between 250-300 Indigenous students attend courses at Nungalinya. Incredibly, this amounts to people from over 100 communities and from over 30 distinct First Languages groups. Many of our students come from Uniting, Anglican and Catholic communities of the Northern Territory where missions were established in the mid-20th century. However, students come from all over Australia!
Due to our holistic, pastoral focus and the incorporation of Indigenous perspectives into our courses, our completion rates for units of courses are superb. However, even more importantly, we model at Nungalinya the profound truth that as brothers and sisters in Christ, love is the key to everything we do. As a community, we are blessed at Nungalinya with a daily, small taste of heaven:
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands (Revelation 9:7).
Every year, many churches and communities are positively impacted by students who attend Nungalinya College. But we can't do it alone! We rely on your help to continue to teach and empower students as they study and grow their skills and knowledge.
